Specific Field Index Operations

ProLog maintains two index files for each logbook, one ordered by callsign the other by date. A very powerful and helpful feature which we call "Specific Field Indexing" permits you to index your logbook based on the information contained in a number of other data fields that comprise the log entry form.

You may either choose to index the entire logbook by a given field or you may request that the index only relate to contacts that contain a specific item of data. For example, if you want to index only the contacts that contain the name "Edward" you would first enter "Edward" into the "Name" field of the logging form before requesting the SFI operation.

It gets better; lets say you want to include all names that start with "ED", that is, you want to find "Ed", "Edward", "Edwin", "Edwina", "Eduardo" etc. To do this, simply enter "Ed" into the "Name" field and then, when the SFI filter menu is displayed, choose the "Wildcard From Start of Field" selection. You can also request a "Wildcard Within Field" which will include contacts where the letters "ED" are embedded anywhere for example "Pedro", "Fred",  "Alfred" etc.

If you leave the "Name" field blank, then ProLog will assume that the name itself is not to be a part of the data filter.

Next, right-click in the logging form, which will display a menu where you may select the "Index Logbook By Field" menu entry. When you do this, a submenu will be displayed listing all of the logging data fields that may be indexed. This menu is shown below.

By left-clicking the logging form field of your choice, you will display the List Filter Menu. This powerful filter parameter menu permits you to further qualify the contents of the list that will be created. Study the possible variations and the flexibility becomes apparent. You could for example, request a list of YL names for all of your SSB contacts on 20M Phone (SSB). Being able to include the Categories and QSL Status to the filter criteria, plus the ability to exclude contacts that meet the filter criteria and wildcard searching just adds icing to the cake. Once you have made your filter selections, simply click on "Begin" to display a list of contacts that meet your filter criteria. We have made a fairly simple filter selection by asking to see a list of Names for all of our Phone contacts on 20M without regard for Specific Names, Categories or QSL Status.

After clicking "Begin" the following list window for this specific logbook was displayed. How much easier could it be!?
